Harrison Breuer Reviews Amazon.com Reader Reviews:

Pink, M!zzandastood(or however the fuck you spell it)

Hi everyone, Galvin here, intruding on a friend's submission lest you all forget just whose website this is. (Hint: mine) Well, the first Reader Review article was such a success that...actually, not really, but I sure thought it was funny. And so for that matter did my friend Harrison Breueueueuuer, who told me so, so I said to him, "Harrison," I says, "You're acidic and amusing, why don't you write one yourself?" And then he did. And then I posted it. True story. Anyway, I'll shut up now.

Hello to all of Galvin’s loyal readers. Yes, this is the same Harrison Breuer who wrote the review of the WWF softball game in 2001 which you are no doubt familiar with. I make my triumphant return to the world of internet publishing with this, the second in a series of “Galvin Reviews Reader Reviews” by targeting one of America’s rising acts. Alecia Moore, known to America as “Pink”, has taken the pop world by storm the last year. As most edgier acts are, she was raised in suburban Philadelphia, which those of you familiar with the area know is about as hardcore as you can get. Just 23 years old, Pink already has two hit albums, and is no doubt inspiring many clones as I write this. But her smash album “M!ssundaztood” has not only garnered her wealth, but also a cache of entertaining Amazon reader reviews. Let’s take a look at what some of Ms. Moore’s adoring fanbase has to say, shall we?

big784 from Canton, MI says:

Wow!

One word to sum up the cd that I have. The girl is back and ready for round to so hold on to your seatbeats because it's going to be a fun ride w/ Pink. I love Pink style for music and this cd is no different from her last. She is here to stay and she wants everyone to know who she is and what her name is. Pink rules! As simple as that enought said.

Where to start? A question I am sure your English teachers have asked as well. “Round to”? “Seatbeats”? “Pink style for music”? “Enought said”? I have one word to sum up your work as well, bigr784, Wow! Hey, you say this cd is no different from her last. Well why’d you get it? I certainly don’t buy two copies of the same CD. But I must note you said “the cd that I have”, and not “bought”. Perhaps you stole this CD. Making you a thief. And I also have evidence that you are a liar. You go on to claim that Pink “wants everyone to know who she is and what her name is.” Well if that were true, why does she go under the name Pink when we all know her real name is Alecia Moore, or more likely Ann Baumgarten? And why does she not make her suburban Philadelphia upbringing known? Doesn’t living on the Main Line increase one’s “street cred”? If you truly love Pink as much as you claim, you will return your stolen merchandise and buy the CD as Ms. Moore and her company’s lawyers would like you to.

kylepalligro from New York, NY says:

pink's 2nd cd, m!ssundaztood, is really good. it's the kind of album that you can discover tracks on; a few weeks ago i found out how great "lonely girl" was, when i wasn't attracted to it the first few seconds i'd listened to it before. so here's how i graded the songs again:

1) m!ssundaztood- a nice, airy feel to this feel-good song. A

2) don't let me get me- a rock song, but way too short. A

3) just like a pill- i like how it changes swiftly from a simple guitar to a powerful rock track. A+

4) get the party started- how overplayed is this one. B+

5) respect- not really any different than #4. A-

6) 18-wheeler- a rock song that is also uplifting and feel-good. A+

7) family portrait- meaningful lyrics don't do anything to this sort of blah-sounding work. B+

8) misery- flowed into this by family portrait, we hear jazz and pop, and not really good vocals. B+

9) dear diary- good beginning but it doesn't go anywhere. A-

10) eventually- a different-sounding style for pink is just ok. B

11) lonely girl- a good song but you can tell that pink didn't write the lyrics even without looking in the lyrics packet. A

12) numb- a punk-rock track which deliciously invites good lyrics and styles into a great mush of, well, pink. A+

13) gone to california- no offense, but we don't really care about how bad philly is, pink. B+

14) my vietnam- like "just like a pill," this one swiftly changes from a war-sounding (emphasis on "sounding") scene to a really good pop song. A

so, in all, pink's done it, not again, but better

Unlike Galvin, I always find it nothing but helpful to have someone break down a CD track by track and grade them, thus indicating to me which songs to never listen to as well as helpfully not requiring me to form my on opinions. However, your ratings are not particularly helpful. kylepalligro seems to have introduced a new, blood-type-based rating system. I must disagree in a few cases, as “Just Like a Pill” is an AB+ song, and “Numb” is merely an O work. To make sure I understood your blood-type system I went over your other reviews. Oh boy… they read like a who’s who of Where Are They Now’s 2006 edition. Vanessa Carlton. Michelle Branch. Britney Spears. Various Artists. Who are they? And you helpfully rated all their songs in the same manner, with the lowest garnering a B-. You also gave them all 5 stars, indicating I should purchase them all. I’ll take a rain check, at least until you come up with a rating system that breaks the tyranny of the letters A and B.

I.B. from Camden, NJ writes:

Pink came back for round two with a whole different sound and approach this time around. Lyrically and musically rock is the main sound here with a small touch of R+b and jazz. A lot of people think she returned to where she really belonged while others think she abandonded her fans by switching but really its neither. Pink can do both rock and r+b .....and do it well. Even on her first album there were elements of rock in her songs. Once you understand that then it will all make sense that the next thing for her to do was switch and do something different..Like now!

Whats good? Misundastood, dont let me get me, just like a pill, get the party started, 18 wheeler, misery(soulful feel...mixed with gospel), lonley girl, my vietnam. All these songs are the ones you really check for but everything is good. On this one pink was more direct and str8 forward in everything she did.

Overall pink came strong the second time around...showing that she can do more than the typical.....if she is still misundastood...then listen to both albums and you will understand what the deal is.

Still not sure?....get it!

Pink has “a whole different sound and approach this time around”? That’s not what bigr784 said. Maybe you two should fight to see who is right. Of course you two need to fight over the spellchecker a lot more, but who am I to judge? I do note the crossover of Avril Lavigne-esque spelling, as Pink is “str8 forward”. Did you do that because you do not know how to spell “straight”? Or are you actually that stupid? Perhaps a perusal of your other reviews will tell us? What’s that, apparently you reviewed this same CD twice? In four days? What the hell is wrong with you I.B.? Each review is slightly different, but who cares? Your stupidity aside, you also point out that pink “came strong the second time around.” Is that your doing? What went wrong the first time? Is Pink familiar with “bust”?

Your rating: No bust for you!

Da Peace Dogg from "streets" has this to say:

This chick is all dat!!

When I hear the groove of "Let's Get This Party Started," as well as Pink's well thought out lyrics, I can't help but jump up and down with energy.

And I thought Britney was the Queen of Pop!! Boy was I ever fooled. Unlike Britney and so many other pop star divas, Pink sings from her heart, shoots from her hip, keeps it real and basically busts out any other cliched phrasing you can think of. What I'm trying to say is:

The girl knows how to work it!!

You go, girl!!

This album is all that...plus a bag of chips. If you don't believe me, check out the intro.

PEACE OUT!!

Mr. Peace Dogg, I regret to inform you that Pink did not actually write the lyrics to “Get This Party Started.” Does that restore Britney as the “Queen of Pop?” Since you’re from the streets, I assume you are a fan of Pink’s rough upbringing. Your other album reviews fit the trend; Whitensake, Bon Jovi, Jim Brickman...wait, what’s that? Jim Brickman? Noted Christian pianist Jim Brickman? Are your street “homies” aware of your Jim Brickman love? I have never heard, in all my days of cruising the streets, a “homeboy” proclaim Jim Brickman to be “jiggy” or any other such adjective. Apparently Da Peace Dogg knows different. So in conclusion you can take your bag of chips, your love of contemporary Christian pop, and go to hell!

Your rating: Why bother?

From A 12-year old music fan:

This CD is totally awesome i absolutely LOVE it! I just went to see her in concert and WOW she rocked the audience! I mean, Her voice is incredibe, she's pretty, and she does NOT dress like Britney Spears! She wears REGULAR clothes. one thing i have to say is bad is she cusses ... But other than that i have to say the CD Rocks!

So… you don’t like cussing? What the fuck is up with that? You little 12-year-old piece of shit? You fucking like that? Me cussing at your motherfucking stupid self, you dumb asshole? Keep your nonsensical, anti-vernacular reviews to yourself, you runt bitch.

Your rating: Fucking shit

Now a different twelve year-old music fan says:

pinks album shows a series of expressions in her songs. I think her songs resemble some of her real fealings. Some of pink's songs sometimes interpret the feelings of people in real life situations. Most of my friends including me think this album is very realistic and the music is great. It has a great rithm for dancing and excersise. We all agree this is a great album and its worth the money. I want to encourage p!nk to keep up the good work!

Are you kidding? This is written like a bad middle school essay. You “think her songs resemble some of her real fealings?” What are “fealings?” I am glad you took a survey of your 12-year-old friends and the results indicate I should purchase this CD. But I am not a fan of “rithm”, nor do I enjoy dancing or “excersise.” I’ll say this for you, at least you do not object to Pink’s cussing, like that other fucking 12-year-old. But I do recommend that you and your buddies get together and study grammar rather than “excersise” to Pink’s “rithm”s.

Rating: Get a dictionary.

Well this walk through Amazon.com’s reader reviews is complete. Everyone thinks you should buy Pink’s “Missunaztood”, either because it is just like her first album or completely different. Thanks for the help Amazon.com!
